Post 2

While we were given a web site specifically adding more to our cause
and effect discussion, I particularly enjoyed the sections of our
book dealing speciifically with finding a cause. In many sitatiions,
pinpointing an exact reason for why something happens can be very
diffucult. There seems to be cause/effect chains that come into play
and the cause is not always clear. I liked how on page 318, the book
instructs us to use a scientific method to find the cause of
something. We are told to “conjecture possible causes, then by eliminate them until there is only one”. This is an idea
that I will try to use in my day to day life. I liked the examples they used in this chapter. I felt like this chapter really went in depth, and I am not sure if the rest of the class agress with me but I felt that there were certain topics that
the book briefly covered but left me confused. However, reading other
peoples posts on the the blogs helped me understand key topics.

  1. I really liked how you could take a topic from the book and bring it into your every day life. The example you brought up seems really practical and applicable to most problems. The scientific method sounds like something only scientists would use because it has the word "science" in it, but when you explained it, it seemed very simple to grasp and very useful. To "conjecture possible causes, then eliminate them one by one" sounds like some common sense reasoning that I would think most people could freely use rather than something that only applies to scientists, but I think it really means that it's just something that scientists use specifically but others are free to use.

  2. I agree with you that the cause/effect portion of chapter 15 was the most interesting. It seems that a few other people wrote about the same concept in the chapter. I think this was such a popular concept written about because it is very relatable to our everyday lives. The scientific method example given in the reading is very useful. In a lot of our past educational experiences we were taught that this method is the most logical, and it turns out that it is very useful in everyday life. I know that In my personal experiences I use the scientific method without even realizing at times and sometimes the problems I am trying to solve would be easier if I had used it.
